What a week that was...
I was going to headline this week's update something along the line of "Raise the Roof" or "The Roof is on (fire!)" given that we finished last week looking forward to the roofing as this week's main event. However, there has been that much going on around the town and building site this week that those titles really didn't seem enough to do it justice.
Yes, the roof has gone on, but following that we have also seen windows and sliding doors installed ("Let there be Light!"). Having the windows in means the guys have also started cracking on with the external cladding (I will let readers make up their own witty title about wrap/rap here).

Building aside, the main event in town was last Saturday's victory by the mighty Bridport Seagulls in the NTFA Division 2 Seniors Grand Final. Coming from third on the ladder at the end of the season and winning three sudden death finals in a row to take the title from the favourites Perth. A great result for the team and the town which has had streamers and balloons on the lamp posts for the past fortnight or so. One of the boys on the build site played in the game and was welcomed back to the office Wednesday, after some extended celebrations.
But now, back to the build, and the roofing was a sight to see. Despite it being pretty gusty all week, the guys were up on the top and doing their thing in numbers. The other builders think they are mad, but they did a great job and it was fun to watch them in action from the drone perspective. They will be back to finish off the gutters and trim a bit later, but the main roof structure looks fantastic.
Roofers in action!
As mentioned, the roof being on meant the windows could be fitted and on Thursday we took delivery of one of the prizes of the build - thermally broken windows and sliding doors. The thermal break means that they provide significantly better insulation versus standard double glazing. While it does come at a cost, the break means that any cold from outside is not transferred inside through the metal window frames, but is instead absorbed by a plastic divider built into the frame. This also means significantly less condensation, allowing for clear views of the rolling hills and dam from the bedrooms and living room on those colder mornings we sometimes get down this way.

From here, the next stage is the cladding and then the focus can move to inside where a host of other decisions are waiting. We have started working on the roughing in stage - deciding where things like power points and light switches need to go so the electricians can get cracking, but that story can wait for another time.

Nice to learn about thermal breaks. Those "Lego" builders up on the roof look so funny, and kind of cute too 😊
Looking fantastic.
