Up, Up and Away
Another week has passed and there has been more decisions made, more progress on the build and a new toy added to the arsenal.
First, the new toy!
Don't we all love new toys, and this week we have got a doozy. We now have a new drone all of our very own. With much of the marketing work for this project being done ourselves, we thought we should try to jazz things up a bit and get some overhead shots. Now, I am new to this drone thing, so you may have to bear with me a bit, but our new DJI Mini 5 Pro has a bunch of built in routines that make the basic shots easy (unfortunately I am not getting paid to plug this - open to offers though). It has only really been out for about 15 minutes on a bit of a test flight, but the test shots it provided - both photos and short videos - look great to me. We share a couple here but hopefully, as the build progresses and we gain more experience, we will be able to add a lot more colour and movement.
A first video shot of the house build in progress
Photos taken from the drone...I particularly like the view down the hallway which is about 34m long and will have full length windows at both ends!

As you can see, the build is really coming along (I know we say this every week, but at this stage of the build it is true). This time last month the house slab had just been poured. Since then we have seen the shed slab go in, the frames go up on both buildings, and the sheds roof trusses go up. This week it was the trusses on the main house and the shape is starting to get much clearer. We have even got skylights above the bathrooms now - the first pieces of glass.
The build as at 28 August.

Next week we expect to start to see cladding on the walls (of the shed at least), which should hopefully give the builders some respite from the weather when the rain comes in.
In terms of what else has been keeping us busy - we are making final decisions on a range of pieces including floor and wall coverings. Which floorboards to use, both inside and out. What colour to paint the walls - how many shades are there! Carpets, curtains, blinds. The list seems never ending. Then you add in door hardware and tapware. Benchtops and tiles can also be put on the list. Wardrobe and cabinetry materials, colour and texture - and deciding on appliances and layout to make sure the cabinets will fit.
At the same time, we are continuing to work on the garden here in the home paddock to get our veggies going. Once the build is nearing completion, our attention will turn to the landscaping around the new buildings. We will need to repair the ground from cement and delivery trucks but that is, thankfully, a job for another day. In the meantime, we will continue to work on projects, literally, in our own backyard.

The creamy timber against that blue sky looks gorgeous. Apart from the food, I'm equally thrilled about the construction! Reckon you've got some videos tucked away too? Can't wait for the finished project and the inevitable montage 😄
